Orthotics

Many injuries and conditions we see at Clifton Hill Podiatry occur as a consequence of abnormal foot and lower limb mechanics which can have a significant impact on the feet, legs, pelvis and spine.

At Clifton Hill Podiatry we manufacture and prescribe orthotics to assist in stopping pressure lesions, deformity and pain in individuals that may have faulty foot biomechanics.

Do I need orthotics?

Some examples of foot conditions that can be treated with orthotics are plantar fasciitis, bunions, knee pain, flat feet and high arches, foot injuries, bursitis, neuroma and Achilles tendinopathy.

What are orthotics?

Orthotics are custom designed insoles. They are manufactured and used to improve, support, or correct an individual's foot posture. There are many examples of non-casted innersoles, over the counter prefabricated insoles, poorly manufactured devices and 3D printed devices are all under this umbrella.

At Clifton Hill Podiatry, we complete a comprehensive evaluation mechanically for each person, to determine foot function problems and how they relate to leg, knee and foot pains during walking, running and weight bearing activities. Once this is achieved, the Podiatrist will scan, or plaster impression cast the client and customise a prescription to modify their foot function with their new orthotics.

What are custom and semi-custom orthotics?

Custom orthotics are a prescription orthotic made from a digital 3D imagery or plaster cast impression made just for you to improve, support or correct your foot posture or treat any foot pathology you may be experiencing.

Semi-custom orthotics maybe an alternative that can meet the needs of your foot condition, this can be discussed and assessed during your consultation.

You can be assured that you are receiving the best individualised care possible from the team at Clifton Hill Podiatry.

Are there different types of orthotic?

Orthotics can vary in size, shape and materials depending on the foot problem, foot shape, age, activity, and lifestyle of the client. Being moulded to each person’s foot scan or impressions, orthotics are an accurate fit and provide both support, correction and comfort.

Do you customise orthotics for children?

For growing children with foot problems, sometimes serious, at Clifton Hill Podiatry, we can identify these problems and provide both correction and support for the developing feet with customised prefabricated orthotic joeys at a lower cost. This is helpful for families with ongoing care for their children when required.
